April is prime time on the Chandeleur Islands, and the bite has been on fire. Big speckled trout are showing up in good numbers, with several fish over 24” landed this month. The redfish have been aggressive, especially in the mornings and late afternoons, with gold spoons and paddle tails being the ticket. Offshore guests who ventured to nearby wrecks found hungry snapper and even a few keeper grouper. Skiff rentals have been in high demand, and night fishing under the lights continues to produce steady action on trout and the occasional flounder.
